Semester 2 : Non-Human Anatomy

Firstly with the Squirrel the way the artist has created the detail in the fur is mainly soft shading in layers upon layers accompanied by some hard lines which helps with the form of the drawing creating its fairly realistic look and anatomically correct and proportionate figure. All of this shows that the artist carefully observed the animal and used a mix of techniques in this drawing. Now with the tall bird the methods are very similar but there seems to be more hard lines in place of some shading which helps add to the fact that it has feathers rather than fur but it goes off where it seems where the artists hand may have slipped. Another thing is that the legs haven’t really been worked on too much even if they look basically correct anatomically. Now finally onto the Parrot, the methods of the artists mark making remain the same but this time going slightly softer than the last one. That parrot looks rather realistic as it is anatomically correct from the perspective from the artist and there’s even evidence of some impressionism used in the branch as it wasn’t the main focus of the drawing but helps with the overall piece.
