This is my first piece of still life that I drew during one
of the observational drawing sessions. The composition of this piece has
several points of interest, the first being the large vase which would be the
first thing that the viewers eye would be attracted to. Then form there the
line in the image would move them onto the smaller glass vase containing the
flowers and then onto the flowers in the back of the arrangement. The balance
and contrast we're fair in that the lighting in the piece was very well placed
which led to it having a good quality of shading which is evident in the
objects, however is not as detailed in the drapery on the tabletop. It is also
good that none of the objects are kissing or near kissing nor were any object orphaned
which shows a well placed arrangement of the objects. This is also shown by the lack of any of the
objects being centralised . Overall it is a decent piece which could use a
little more work on the shading in the lower section of the drawing.
